The number on the box is the least interesting thing about a battery, and I say that as someone whose job involves putting numbers on boxes.
Here is what a mah figure is: how much charge the cell holds. What you actually care about is how many sessions that charge survives, and how long you wait for it to come back. Those are different questions and the market is full of devices that look great on one and disappoint on the other.
I will go through the real numbers, then tell you which one I would pack for a day away, and be honest about where the mAh figures are misleading.
HEATX is our own product, so the usual disclosure: HEATX numbers come from our own product documentation, and every competitor figure comes from that manufacturer's published specifications.
The numbers
| Device | Battery | Charging time | Per charge | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HEATX 1 (MRT0) | 1350 mAh | 90 min | 15 sticks | 48 g |
| HEATX 2 (GEN2.0) | 1800 mAh | 90 min | 20 sticks | 66 g |
| HEATX 3 | 3200 mAh | 120 min | 30 sticks | 100 g |
| HEATX 5 (GEN 5.0) | 2000 mAh | 90 min | 20 sticks | 64 g |
| HEATX 6 (GEN 6.0) | 2600 mAh | 90 min | 20 sticks | 90 g |
| IQOS ILUMA | 1728 mAh | About 90 min | About 20 sticks | 74 g |
| glo Pro | 3000 mAh | About 2 hours | About 20 sticks | 98 g |
| Glo Hyper Pro | 2580 mAh | Not published | Not published | 150 g |
| Pulze 3.0 | 1850 mAh | About 85 min | 25+ sticks | About 57 g |
| Ploom TECH+ | 480 mAh | About 60 min | About 20 capsules | About 37 g |
| Ploom with2 | 610 mAh | About 60 min | Not published | About 43 g |
| lil SOLID 2.0 | 880 mAh | About 95 min | About 2 sticks | Not published |
| lil Hybrid | 1250 mAh | About 140 min | Not published | Not published |
Where the big number is not the useful number
The Ploom TECH+ row is the one that teaches the lesson.
480 mAh looks like a failure on paper. It is the smallest battery in the table by a wide margin. And yet it delivers about 20 capsules on a 60 minute charge, which is a genuinely quick turnaround, in a device that weighs 37 g.
The reason is that a Ploom capsule is a small consumable. It holds less tobacco than a full stick, and it is a single-session unit, so the device is not doing much work per charge. The battery does not need to be large because the job is small.
Compare that to the HEATX 1: 1350 mAh, 15 sticks, the lowest endurance figure in our range, and a 90 minute charge. Both numbers are true, and neither of them tells you how much tobacco you actually get through. Because the HEATX 1 uses 360ยฐ circumferential heating, a stick can go back in for a second session, so 15 sticks is closer to 30 sessions of tobacco.
The Pulze 3.0 is the same lesson in a different direction. 1850 mAh is mid-table, less than the glo Pro's 3000 and the HEATX 3's 3200, and yet 25+ sticks per charge is the best per-charge figure in the table. Smaller sticks, and a device that is explicitly built around not cutting off.
So the ranking by mAh and the ranking by usable sessions are not the same list, and I would be misleading you if I gave you the first one and called it a recommendation.
The two things that actually matter
Sessions per charge, honestly counted. Where the manufacturer publishes it, the figure to use is effective sessions, not listed sticks. With the second pass factored in:
| Device | Listed per charge | Effective sessions per charge |
|---|---|---|
| Ploom TECH+ | About 20 capsules | About 20 |
| Ploom with2 | Not published | Not published |
| Pulze 3.0 | 25+ sticks | 25+ |
| lil SOLID 2.0 | About 2 sticks | About 2 |
| IQOS ILUMA | About 20 sticks | About 20 |
| glo Pro | About 20 sticks | About 20 |
| HEATX 1 | 15 sticks | About 30 |
| HEATX 2 | 20 sticks | About 40 |
| HEATX 3 | 30 sticks | About 60 |
| HEATX 5 | 20 sticks | About 40 |
| HEATX 6 | 20 sticks | About 40 |
The HEATX 3 is the endurance winner on this list and it is not close. 3200 mAh, about 30 heating cycles, and roughly 60 effective sessions. That is the number that matters if you are away from a socket for a week.
The Ploom with2 row is blank because Japan Tobacco does not publish a per-charge count for it. I would rather leave it empty than guess.
How long you wait for the charge. This is the half of the battery question that gets ignored, and it is the half that decides whether a device works for you.
Take the IQOS ILUMA at about 90 minutes and the glo Pro at around two hours, which is the second longest in the table after the lil Hybrid at roughly 140 minutes. The Ploom TECH+ takes about 60 minutes, tied with the Ploom with2, and it is the fastest turnaround here.
Now the awkward one: the HEATX 3's 120 minute charge is the longest in our range, and I want to be straight about that because it is the device I am otherwise recommending most. It also has the biggest battery, so it is doing more for the time. The trade is simple: the heaviest device, the longest charge, the longest session, the most control.
The one I would pack for a travel day
If I were going away for a few days with one device, it would be the HEATX 3, and here is the reasoning.
At 3200 mAh and about 60 effective sessions, a single charge covers a normal trip several times over. That means one charger, in the bag, and I do not think about it. The 100 g and the 120 minute charge matter at a socket, where you are standing around, and they stop mattering on a Tuesday when you are 300 km from one.
If I wanted something lighter for that trip, the HEATX 5 at 64 g and 2000 mAh gets about 40 effective sessions on a 90 minute charge. It is 36 g lighter than the HEATX 3, it charges 30 minutes faster, and it has one button and no app, so there is nothing to fiddle with on a train.
If I wanted the lightest possible thing, the HEATX 1 is 48 g with 1350 mAh and about 30 effective sessions, but 15 listed sticks is the lowest endurance figure we make and 90 minutes to charge for 1350 mAh is not a good trade if you are moving around.
Enormous battery in the glo Pro, though, and this surprises people because it has the biggest battery in the category. 3000 mAh, about 20 sticks, roughly 20 effective sessions, and around two hours to charge. It is 98 g and it is 82 ร 43 ร 21 mm, so it is a wide object. A big battery that takes two hours to refill and gives you the same effective session count as a 2000 mAh device is a different proposition from a big battery in a device you can carry.
The Ploom TECH+ deserves a special mention for travel, because the 480 mAh that looks bad is paired with the fastest charge time and the lightest weight in the whole table. 37 g and 60 minutes. If capsule costs work out where you are, it is the easiest device in this article to travel with.
One more thing about travel that is not really about power. What you can buy on arrival decides more than any battery figure. TEREA format sticks, which is what the HEATX 1, 2, 3 and 5 take, are the most widely distributed heated tobacco sticks in the world, and you will find them in most markets. HEETS sticks, which is what the HEATX 6 takes, are the IQOS 3 DUO format and they are not sold everywhere. The lil sticks have their own geography, excellent in Korea and thin in a lot of European markets. A device that is perfect on paper and has no consumable at the other end is worth nothing to you in an airport queue.
Charging in practice, and a caveat
Everything above is a device sitting still, full to empty, at room temperature. Real use is messier.
One more thing about cost, since endurance is really a cost question in disguise. The manufacturer makes an argument for the HEATX 5 that a price around half that of mainstream devices is covered by two packs of sticks. That is a manufacturer claim, and it depends entirely on what sticks cost where you are, so treat it as a starting point for your own arithmetic rather than a fact.
Heat is the main variable. A device that has been sitting in a hot car, or in a pocket in the sun, will charge slower and will discharge faster. A device used outdoors in winter will drain faster for the opposite reason. If your use involves big temperature swings, that is a bigger factor in real battery life than the difference between 2000 and 2600 mAh.
Charge time figures are also a nominal thing. A 90 minute charge from empty is 90 minutes at best; topping up from 40% takes proportionally less, and the last 20% always takes longer than the first 80%.
And the battery itself is a consumable. Every lithium cell in every one of these devices, ours included, loses capacity over years of use. There is no way around that and no device is exempt.
Where our own devices are the wrong answer
This article has leaned heavily on our own figures, so it is only fair to say plainly where we lose.
The HEATX 3's 120 minute charge is the worst in our range, and it is on the device I just recommended most. It is the heaviest thing we make at 100 g, and the slowest to refill. If your day involves a lot of moving between places, that combination works against you and no battery figure fixes it.
The HEATX 5 cannot charge and heat at the same time. I have not tested that specific behaviour under a formal protocol, so I will not claim it as a specification, but it is a single-button device with no screen and no fast-charge mode, and if you are used to a device that tops up while you use it, you will notice the difference.
The HEATX 1 is the weakest endurance option we sell. 15 sticks per charge, 1350 mAh, 90 minutes to charge. About 30 effective sessions with the second pass, and it is the only model where I would tell an away-from-a-socket user to look elsewhere first.
None of our devices ships with a temperature control worth the name except the HEATX 3. The HEATX 5, the HEATX 6 and the HEATX 1 run one profile. If you want to adjust the heat, that is the HEATX 3 and only the HEATX 3.
And we do not make a 37 gram device. The Ploom TECH+ is 43 g lighter than the HEATX 3 and 27 g lighter than the HEATX 5, and it charges in 60 minutes. If the lightest possible object is your priority, we lose, and I would rather say so here than have you find it in a shop.
What I would buy for endurance
If your priority is the longest possible time between charges, the HEATX 3, with 3200 mAh and about 60 effective sessions, and accept the 100 g and the 120 minute charge.
If you want the best balance of weight, capacity and charge time, the HEATX 5 at 64 g, 2000 mAh, about 40 effective sessions and a 90 minute charge. The HEATX 6 is the same endurance with hybrid heating and two temperature curves, at 90 g.
If you want the fastest refill, the Ploom TECH+ at about 60 minutes and 37 g, with the capsule economics to check first.
If you want the most sessions per charge regardless of the refill wait, the Pulze 3.0 at 25+ sticks.
Full specifications and photos for every model are on chillmistvape.com, and if you are stocking a shelf rather than buying one unit, the OEM and wholesale terms are worth asking about directly.
Health, law and where to buy
Heated tobacco is not harmless. Avoiding combustion reduces exposure to a number of the toxicants in cigarette smoke, but it still delivers nicotine, and nicotine is addictive. Nothing in this article is medical advice, and nothing here claims that any device is safe.
If you do not already use tobacco or nicotine, there is no reason to start. Check the age limits and the tax rules where you live, since both differ by country and change. Buy from licensed sellers only. Figures attributed to Philip Morris, British American Tobacco, Imperial Brands, Japan Tobacco and KT&G come from those manufacturers' published specifications; the HEATX figures come from our own product documentation. Compare the numbers, then decide which device fits how you actually use a heated tobacco device.
